In the state elections on May 14, 2017, Marc Blondin (CDU) won the constituency for the first time with 39.7% of the first votes and was somait able to recapture it from the SPD after five years. The previous constituency member Ina Spanier-Oppermann moved into parliament via her place on the SPD state list.

After the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia resolved to dissolve itself by a large majority on March 14, 2012, early state elections took place on May 13, 2012 . The CDU and its top candidate Norbert Röttgen competed against the incumbent Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft . She suffered heavy losses.

Ina Spanier-Oppermann surprisingly relegated the favorite to second place and won the Krefeld II constituency with 21,339 votes (41.3 percent; Schittges: 17,500 votes, 33.86 percent).

Krefeld I also went to the SPD candidate, namely Ulrich Hahnen (SPD).

85,868 residents of the constituency were eligible to vote in the 2012 state elections . The turnout was 61.1%.
