Franz Xaver Pritz (born November 4, 1791 in Steyr , Upper Austria ; † March 22, 1872 in Ansfelden , Upper Austria) was an Augustinian canon and historian.

Life

He was canon of St. Florian Monastery . After studying theology in Linz , he was ordained a priest in 1815 and initially went to Mauthausen as a pastor . From 1817 to 1855 he was professor of the Old Testament at the Lyceum in Linz, after which he was pastor in Wallern an der Trattnach and later in Ansfelden (1862–1872). In 1851 he became a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences , and in 1856 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order . Posthumous honors

In Steyr the Pritzgasse is named after him: It connects the Rennbahnweg with the Pestalozzistraße. The memorial plaque on the house where he was born (Johannesgasse 7) was unveiled on November 8, 1891.
