Franz Xaver Wagenschön
Franz Xaver Wagenschön (born September 2, 1726 in Littisch near Jaroměř , Bohemia , † January 1, 1790 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter of Rococo and Classicism .
Life
Franz Xaver Wagenschön went to Vienna in 1747 to study at the art academy there. In 1751 he became a student at the Vienna Academy, of which he was finally accepted as a member in 1770. He was a student of Paul Troger .
In his earlier years Wagenschön mainly painted portraits of nobles, as did the children of Maria Theresa at the end of the 1760s , above all Marie Antoinette, who later became Queen of France . In the later years of his life he finally dealt with religious and allegorical representations, which were initially still subordinate to the style of the Italian Baroque.
Works
Wagenschön painted works of art in monasteries and churches in Lower Austria, in Poysdorf , Göttweig , Ollersbach , Scheibbs , Purgstall and in Tulln . His paintings can be found in the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Belvedere in Vienna, Graz and Upper Austria.
