Franz Zaunschirm (born April 29, 1953 in Tamsweg ) is an Austrian musician and composer .

Life

In his youth he learned various instruments: accordion , piano , organ , trombone and percussion . During the boarding school he was organist at the Borromäum in Salzburg for six years until he graduated from high school in 1972. After that he was a trombonist in military music .

Zaunschirm studied composition and music theory at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg from 1980 to 1982 . From 1983 to 1987 he studied musicology at the University of Hamburg , where he also received his doctorate in 1987. phil. PhD on Brahms composition technique at the University of Hamburg .

In addition to the diploma in church music A with distinction, he has a diploma in school music A1 (1977), the diploma teaching organ and teaching degree in geography (1981). He received the diploma "Music Theory and Composition" in 1982 in Hamburg. Formative teachers were Ernst Ludwig Leitner , Cesar Bresgen , Diether de la Motte and Christoph Hohlfeld .

Zaunschirm was first a lecturer , then professor for music theory and composition at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg from 1982 to 1991. He had lectureships at the Trossingen University of Music , in Weikersheim and in Braunschweig .

Since 1991 he has held a professorship at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

More than 20 former students teach as lecturers for music theory or professors at universities in Germany , Great Britain , Spain and Finland . The two most successful graduates Sang-jick Jun and Uzong Choe are professors in music theory at Seoul National University in South Korea .

From 1995 to 1999 he was chairman of the Salzburger Volksliedwerk.
