Franz Zedtwitz

Franz Xaver Graf von Zedtwitz (born March 12, 1906 in Vienna ; † June 22, 1942 near Sevastopol ) was a German zoologist and writer .

Life

Franz Zedtwitz was the son of Count Franz Joseph von Zedtwitz and his wife Gertrud Freiin von Suttner. Franz Zedtwitz was a student at the Jesuit high school Stella Matutina in Feldkirch from 1915 to 1920 . He completed a study of zoology and a PhD in 1929 at the University of Berlin with a work about Langschwanz- and voles to the Doctor of Philosophy . He married Ilse Woit; the couple had three children. Zedtwitz lived as a writer in Krugsreuth near Asch in the Sudetenland .

In addition to zoological works, Franz Zedtwitz wrote narrative animal and hunting books. He achieved his greatest success with the novel Feldmünster , published in 1940 , in which the dedicated Jesuit opponent Zedtwitz dealt with his school days in Feldkirch. The book was published by Nordland-Verlag , operated by the SS , was reprinted several times up to 1943 and was considered required reading in National Socialist circles in the fight against the Jesuit order .

Franz Zedtwitz, who also worked as a war correspondent , was killed in fighting on the Eastern Front in 1942 .
