Franz von Matuschka

Franz Xaver Victor Maria Graf von Matuschka and Toppolczan (born December 1, 1859 in Schöneiche , † April 24, 1943 in Berlin ) was a German geologist and politician . From 1890 to 1893 he was a member of the German Reichstag .

His parents were Viktor Amadeus Bernhard Anton Maria von Matuschka (1824-1909), Count von Matuschka Freiherr von Toppolczan and Spaetgen and his wife Countess Johanna Josepha Hedwig von Ballestrem (born June 22, 1832 - † December 23, 1888).

Life

Franz Graf von Matuschka was born on his father's estate in Schöneiche, Wohlau district. A little later the family moved to Breslau. Matuschka received private tuition there until the fall of 1878 and then switched to the Prima of the Dom-Gymnasium in Fulda, where he passed the school leaving examination at Easter 1880. He then attended the universities in Breslau , Berlin, Munich and Göttingen . Count Matuschka initially studied natural sciences, later devoted himself to studying law and economics, especially the worker question. Since his studies in Breslau he was a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Winfridia Breslau . In Göttingen he was the founding senior of the AV Palatia Göttingen association . In 1886 he received his doctorate on the subject of the Berleburg roof slate in geology. In 1890 he married Alice von Schalscha-Ehrenfeld (1869-1935) , a daughter of the Reichstag member Alexander von Schalscha-Ehrenfeld . The marriage has two daughters. From 1905 he lived in Berlin, where he had an extensive mineral collection with more than 4,000 specimens. Matuschka was a city councilor in Schöneberg and head of the city council from 1910 to 1917.

From 1890 to 1893 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Opole District 10 Neustadt OS and the German Center Party .

His grave is in the Protestant cemetery Alt-Schöneberg , Hauptstrasse 47, field 7-3-26.
