Franz Pitha , from 1859 von Pitha , from 1875 Baron von Pitha (born February 8, 1810 in Rakom , Bohemia , † December 29, 1875 in Vienna ), was a Bohemian-Austrian surgeon .

Pitha studied at the University of Prague and was awarded a Dr. chir. doctorate, from 1843 he was the successor to his teacher Fritz Professor of Surgery. From 1857 to 1874 he was the head of surgery at the Josephinum in Vienna. In 1859 he was deployed as a military surgeon during the war in Italy , in the same year he was ennobled , and in 1875 he was promoted to baron.

He dealt with the new anesthetic procedures , with hospital burns , glottic edema and subcutaneous venous occlusions. He advocated boilable cotton as a bandage material and supported Theodor Billroth's appointment to Vienna.

Franz von Pitha found his final resting place in the Hietzingen cemetery .
