Prince Franz Thaddäus Joseph von Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg (born October 15, 1778 at Zeil Castle ; † December 5, 1845 there ) was a registrar of the kingdoms of Bavaria and Württemberg and, in 1819, president of the Württemberg meeting of estates . He came from the Zeil line of the old Upper Swabian noble family of Truchsesse von Waldburg .

Franz was the son of Prince Maximilian von Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg (* 1750; † 1818) and Princess Maria Johanna Josepha (* 1751; † 1797). In 1819, King Wilhelm appointed him President of the Württemberg Assembly of Estates, which passed the constitution of the Kingdom of Württemberg. Thereafter, Prince Franz was from 1820 to 1845 a member of the Württemberg Chamber of Registrars and hereditary member of the Chamber of Imperial Councils of the Crown of Bavaria. From 1838 Prince Franz no longer appeared in person in the state parliament, but instead allowed his son Constantin to represent him in the chamber . Prince Franz was president of the government of the Jagstkreis in Ellwangen and also Württemberg secret council and royal chamberlain.

Franz von Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown in 1829 .

Title of nobility

By resolution of the Bundestag in Frankfurt on May 18, 1825, Prince Franz was given the right to be addressed with the nobility title “ Highness ”.

Marriage and offspring

Prince Franz was married three times. On July 25, 1805, he and Christiane Polyxene married Princess zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg (* 1782, † 1811), daughter of Prince Dominik Constantin zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort in Kleinheubach .

On January 27, 1818, Franz and Antoinette married Freiin von der Wenge zu Beck (* 1790; † 1819), older daughter of Clemens August von der Wenge , in Thannheim .

On October 3, 1820, he and Maria Theresia married Freiin von der Wenge zu Beck (* 1798, † 1864), who was his sister-in-law, in Aichstetten bei Zeil. Prince Franz belonged to the Roman Catholic Church.
