Franziska Polanski (* 1957 ) is a German writer and scientist.

Life

Franziska Polanski studied medicine, theater studies, German and art history with a doctorate in medicine in 1985. She was assistant director to the opera director and set designer Jean-Pierre Ponnelle for several years , including at the Salzburg Festival and the filming of Ponnelle's Cenerentola production, which is important in terms of theater history.

Scientific activity

Polanski headed the research project “Age stereotypes in cultural memory” at the Marsilius Kolleg at Heidelberg University from 2008 to 2011 . She is interested in unconscious images of old age and their significance for age discrimination . For the first time in the German-speaking world, she sought to determine unconscious attitudes towards age through empirical analysis of caricatures . Based on her research, Polanski conceived and organized the exhibition project “The Age in Caricature”, which has been shown in many places in Germany since 2014, including in state ministries and in the Berlin House of Representatives . With the exhibition, Polanski critically questions the age discourse and the gerontological model of active age and encourages increased reflection on unconscious attitudes towards age.

Writing activity

Polanski became known as an author above all through her texts, which appeared regularly from 1985 to 2000 in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and her books in the field of humor and satire . Her texts have also appeared in many other national newspapers and magazines such as Frankfurter Rundschau , Neue Zürcher , Rheinischer Merkur and SZ Magazin . She wrote a large number of radio plays and broadcast manuscripts for ARD radio stations ( SWR 2 , HR 2 , BR 2 , NDR 2 shredder ), mini dramas for theaters and well-known cabarets such as the Leipziger Pfeffermühle or in 1999 the Munich Lach- und Schießgesellschaft and was a member of the team of authors well-known TV programs such as Kanal fatal and the show Wie Please? ! Polanski's contributions can be found in humor and satirical theories of well-known publishers throughout the German-speaking world and in school and textbooks in the USA.

In 2017 her book "Da lernt'ich I guess what love is - Richard Wagner's dogs" was published. This is referred to as the first "thoroughly researched" presentation of the special topic and is therefore important for Wagner reception.
