The Franciscan Sisters of Vöcklabruck , also poor school sisters from the 3rd Order of St. Franziskus Seraphikus , are an order of the Franciscan Sisters based in Vöcklabruck in Austria .

history

The religious order was founded in 1850 by the priest Sebastian Schwarz and the sister Franziska Serafika Juliane Wimmer (1824–1886) as the first superior who had previously trained at the Institute of School Sisters in Graz . In 1861, the order received recognition as an independent institute by the Bishop of Linz, Franz Joseph Rudigier, and in 1937 papal recognition, which was celebrated in 2012 on the 75th anniversary of the General Chapter with Nuncio Peter Stephan Zurbriggen .

Main areas of activity

The sisters are active in educational, social, health and pastoral areas.

The order runs the St. Josef State Hospital in Braunau am Inn and, together with the Order of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, the Wels-Grieskirchen Clinic . A nursing home for the elderly is run in Rainbach im Mühlkreis from 1862 until today . Since it was founded, they have also supported the Vöcklabruck hospice movement.

The order runs numerous kindergartens and schools.

International

There are other convents, since 1922 in the USA in Missouri , since 1925 in Germany in Berlin , Brandenburg an der Havel and Zinnowitz and since 2002 in Kazakhstan ( Kornejewka , Tonkoschurowka ). From 1933 to 1985 the Austrian hospice was cared for in Jerusalem .
