Fraser Anning

William Fraser Anning (born October 14, 1949 in Brisbane , Australia ) is an Australian politician who succeeded him in the Australian Senate in 2017 . He is known for his racist and Islamophobic remarks. Anning was a member of several parties, including the right-wing populist One Nation . Before the general election in May 2019, he founded a new party with his name. Both his party and his candidacy were unsuccessful.

Anning became known worldwide after 17-year-old Will Connolly smashed an egg on his head for blaming New Zealand's immigration policy and Islam for the attack on two mosques in Christchurch in 2019 .

Early life

Little is known about the early life of Fraser Anning. He is the son of Henry Anning and his wife. Anning graduated with a diploma and served five years in an infantry battalion in the Australian Army . He is married and has two daughters. In addition to a farm, Fraser Anning owns and operates several hotels and an aircraft factory.

Family history

After the new British colony Queensland was founded in 1859, European colonization increased. One of these settlers was his great-grandfather Charles Anning, a British man who settled in Queensland near the Cape River with his five sons in 1862 . Charles Anning built the Reedy Springs cattle breeding station with his family. Gold was found near it on the Palmer River three years later . As a result, many gold diggers came to this area and his sons had started to set up their own farms in the area shortly after setting up their father's farm. These prospered economically because they could supply the gold diggers with agricultural products.

With this income, the brothers were able to acquire more large agricultural land in the Hughenden area . Their land acquisition caused conflicts with the Aborigines living there , who stole and ate their cattle. They fought this with armed force, not only destroyed their livelihoods as hunters and gatherers , but also destroyed their camps. There they arrested young men and forced them to work for them.

Political career

Anning succeeded Malcom Roberts , a member of One Nation , on November 10, 2017 . Roberts was forced to resign when it became known that he had two citizenships. Australian suffrage does not allow this. Until June 2018, Fraser Anning was a member of the right-wing populist One Nation, which is led by Pauline Hanson . Then joined the Katter's Australian Party .

The Katter's Australian Party excluded him because he spoke widely of European and non-European immigration despite being ordered to cease and desist. This is racist. Since then he has been an independent member of the Australian Senate.

When Anning praised the racist White Australia Policy in his first speech in the Senate in August 2017 , he also spoke out in favor of an end to the immigration of Muslims. In this context he also mentioned the term "final solution" (German: "Endlösung"), a term that comes from the vocabulary of the National Socialists and means the final solution to the Jewish question .

Anning supports right-wing extremist groups in Australia. For example, he called for support for a demonstration in January 2019 in St Kilda , a suburb of Melbourne . He attended this event himself and spoke again of a final solution to the Australian immigration of Muslims. This event was hosted by the right wing group of the United Patriots Front with the participation of their leaders Blair Cottrell and Neil Erikson . Anning's behavior drew heavy criticism from the Queensland Senate and from Prime Minister Scott Morrison . About 200 counter-demonstrators came to the event of about 100 right-wing extremists, who were separated by police forces.

Anning became known worldwide after the attack on two mosques in Christchurch in 2019 when he cited New Zealand's immigration policy and Islam as the reason. With this statement, he caused angry reactions at home and abroad. For this, he was later beaten on the back of the head by 17-year-old Australian Will Connolly on March 16, 2019. A petition with over 1.4 million signatures demanded its removal from parliament.

In the general election in Australia in May 2019, Fraser Anning ran again after founding Fraser Anning's Conservative National Party in April 2019 . He lost his seat and resigned from parliament on June 30, 2019.

insolvency

In August 20109 it became known that a subsidiary of Bendigo Bank, the ABL Nominees, had filed for bankruptcy with the competent federal court in Adelaide to determine the insolvency of Fraser Anning. The press believed Anning was unable to service the $ 185,000 debt he took out on his farm. At the first court hearing, his attorney stated that he was in the United States at the time . On March 16, 2020 - the day a year ago when Connolly smashed an egg on his head - Fraser was declared bankrupt .
