The Frechener Bach begins at the sewage treatment plant in Frechen near Cologne, flows past Haus Vorst , crosses the southern Rand Canal , passes the Stüttgenhof and seeps away after 4.6 km in the green belt near the military ring road . Gate valves regulate the outflow into the edge canal, the flooding of the moat from the Stüttgenhof and the outflow into the sewer system near the military ring.

Until the Middle Ages, the small stream with its source in Benzelrath supplied the village of Frechen with drinking water. He flooded the moats of Haus Vorst and the Stüttgenhof, which still asserts water rights today. It was canalised with the construction of the Frechen-Cologne steam tram around 1894. Later he directed the water from the Frechen sewage treatment plant into the Rand Canal.

In the course of the Regionale 2010 the Frechener Bach was redesigned in a natural way over long stretches. The Frechener Bach flows into the Randkanal, the Bachbrücke has dried up (status: summer 2012).

In April 2018, the city of Cologne started to revitalize the Frechener Bach in Cologne's urban area. I.a. the straightened course is reversed in a concrete casing so that the stream can be returned to its historical bed.
