Fred Churchill Leonard (born February 16, 1856 in Elmer , Potter County , Pennsylvania , †  December 5, 1921 in Coudersport , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Fred Leonard attended the common schools, the State Normal School in Mansfield and the Williston Seminary in East Hampton ( Massachusetts ). He then studied at Yale College until 1883 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1885, he began to work in this profession. First he practiced in Elmira in New York State and from 1887 in Coudersport in Pennsylvania. Politically, he joined the Republican Party .

In the congressional election of 1894 , Leonard was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 16th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Albert Cole Hopkins on March 4, 1895 . In 1896 he was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. Therefore, until March 3, 1897, he could only serve one term in Congress .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Fred Leonard worked again as a lawyer. Between 1898 and 1906 he was a US Marshal . He was responsible for the western part of his home country until 1901; then he took over the middle district in the same function. He also got into the banking industry. He died on December 5, 1921 in Coudersport, where he was also buried.
