Freddie Gavita

Freddie Gavita (* 1985 in Norwich ) is a British jazz trumpeter (also flugelhorn , arrangement , composition ).

Gavita, who has an Italian father, studied at the Royal Academy of Music in 2003/04 and was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra in the late 2000s , with which the first recordings were made. During this time he received the Jazz Rising Star Award and the IAJE Award for Outstanding Musicianship . Strongly influenced by the hard bop Lee Morgans in his trumpet playing, he has since played in the London jazz scene a. a. by John Dankworth Jazz Orchestra, the BBC Big Band, Michael Garrick Jazz Orchestra ( Tone Poems , 2010), the Floating Points Ensemble of Sam Shepherd , in Ronnie Scott's Club Quintet (with Alex Garnett . Sam Burgess , Chris Higginbottom , James Pearson ) and with the Yuriy Galkin Nonet. He has also performed with Will Young , Daniel Beddingfield , Marti Pellow , Andrea Corr , Noah and the Whale, Mick Hucknall , Curtis Stigers and Georgie Fame , and toured with Us3 in 2011 . In the field of jazz he was involved in nine recording sessions between 2006 and 2014. With Kit Downes (piano), Calum Gourlay (double bass) and James Maddren (drums) he has his own quartet. In 2017 he released his debut album Transient ; he was named best trumpeter at the British Jazz Awards 2017 . He also leads a big band with Calum Gourlay .
