The Freewinds is a cruise ship that was built in 1968 at the Finnish Wärtsilä Turku shipyard under the hull number 1161 as Bohème . She belongs to the Finnhansa class.
history
The ship was initially operated by Commodore Cruise Ltd. used for cruises in the Caribbean between Miami and Saint Thomas . In 1981 it was sold to Hanseatic Caribbean Shipping Co. Inc. In 1982 and 1983 it was chartered by the Brazilian company Saitecin Cruises for cruises along the South American east coast to Cape Horn as well as for Caribbean cruises.
At the end of 1984 SeaEscape chartered the ship and used it for day trips between Miami and Freeport , and from the beginning of 1985 for trips between Saint Petersburg and Tampa . In September 1985, the San Donato Properties Corporation bought the ship and renamed it Freewinds . The shipping company used it for multi-day Caribbean cruises.
The Scientology organization has been using the ship as a training center since 1988.
The ship was rebuilt and modernized several times (1970, 1983 and 2009).
