The Freihof-Gymnasium is a linguistically - scientific day school under state ownership in Göppingen . Until 1959, the Hohenstaufen grammar school was located in the premises .

history

In 1874 the foundation stone was laid for a secondary school ; today it is the main building of the Freihof grammar school. In 1903 an expansion to secondary school with school-leaving examination . In 1907 a secondary school was established, combined with an upper secondary school . This went hand in hand with the adoption of the tradition of the Göppingen Latin School . In 1938 it was renamed Hohenstaufen High School for Boys, and in 1954 Hohenstaufen High School. In 1959 the Hohenstaufen grammar school moved to a new building in Hohenstaufenstrasse. The establishment of a grammar school under construction on Freihofstrasse began and the continuation of the tradition of the Göppingen Latin school through the new grammar school with undergraduate Latin (1st foreign language from grade 5). In 1960 the school was given the name Freihof-Gymnasium.

In 1963 the first matriculation examination took place at Freihof-Gymnasium. 1969 began the inclusion of a mathematical and scientific branch. In 1971 the lower level of the Freihof grammar school moved into the “Stelzenbau” building. In 1996, a train with a scientific profile was set up (instead of the previous mathematical-scientific branch) alongside the two trains with a linguistic profile. In 1997 the extension building (now a new building) was inaugurated. In 1998 the stilt building was moved out and in 1999 the renovation work in the main building was completed. The historic toilet building was demolished in 2006. At the same time, construction work began on the extension in the inner courtyard of the main building for use for the all-day offer.

The Freihof-Gymnasium is located in the center of Göppingen on Freihofstrasse and consists of five buildings. In addition to the school management and the school library, the main building also houses classrooms and the specialist rooms of the GWG, geography and history . In addition to the cafeteria and an internet café, the extension also has classrooms. The so-called new building has the specialist rooms biology , physics , chemistry and astronomy as well as the computer room and the so-called syringe via the specialist rooms music and visual arts as well as the sports hall and a voltage room. In addition, there is the Gutmann House , which houses the school kitchen and the upper school library as well as other classrooms. The Foggiaplatz is used here as a schoolyard.

Latin, English, French and Italian are offered as foreign languages. At Freihof-Gymnasium there is a school profile with four weekly Latin lessons plus three weekly English lessons from grade 6.
