Peter Hofelich (born December 16, 1952 in Eybach ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

He has been a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament since April 2006 and was a member of the Finance and Economic Committee and Chairman of the Committee for Europe and International Affairs from 2011 to January 31, 2015.

In July 2011, Peter Hofelich was appointed by the state government as a voluntary representative for medium-sized businesses and crafts at the Ministry of Finance and Economics. From February 2015 to May 2016 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economics in Baden-Württemberg .

Peter Hofelich was deputy chairman of the SPD Baden-Württemberg from 1997 to 2009 and deputy chairman of the Stuttgart Region Association from 1994 to 2009 .

School and study

After graduating from the Freihof-Gymnasium in Göppingen in 1973 and doing military service in Ulm , Peter Hofelich completed a degree in administrative science at the University of Konstanz , which he graduated with a diploma in 1980 (subject: trade unions and federal research and technology policy in the Federal Republic of Germany, Note 1). He then spent a year in the United States at the University of California at Berkeley and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . Subsequently he worked until 1984 as a research assistant with Professor Thomas Ellwein at the University of Konstanz.

Hofelich was employed by IBM Germany for 21 years , for many years as director of corporate representation, later as director of sales for the public sector. At the end of 2004 he left the company at his own request in order to have more time for his family.

From 2005 to 2009 he was a freelance management consultant and lecturer in corporate communications at Aalen University in the course in international business administration.

Political activity

Peter Hofelich has been a member of the SPD since 1975. From 1997 to 2009 he was deputy state chairman of the SPD Baden-Württemberg .

Peter Hofelich was a member of the municipal council of his home town of Salach from 1984 to 2015 . From 1989 to 1997 and from 2009 to 2015 he was also a member of the district council in the Göppingen district . From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the regional assembly of the Stuttgart Region Association . From this he was elected, most recently in 2004, as deputy chairman of the Stuttgart Region Association.

In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2006, Hofelich ran for the SPD in constituency 10 (Göppingen) and was elected to the state parliament via the second mandate . He took over the mandate from Frieder Birzele , who did not run for reasons of age. His opponents were Dietrich Birk (CDU), Henning Schürig (Greens) and Werner Simmling (FDP). In the local elections in June 2009, he defended his council mandate and, after a long break, moved back to the district council of the Göppingen district. At the same time, he resigned from the regional assembly of the Stuttgart Region Association, for which he was no longer a candidate. In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2011 , Hofelich ran again in the constituency of Göppingen and again entered the state parliament via the second mandate.

Hofelich is married to Ingrid Katz-Hofelich, has two children with her and lives in the Salach community .
