The Friday Mosque of Varamin ( Persian مسجد جامع ورامین Masjed-e-Jame-e-Varāmīn , IPA : [ mæsd͡ʒɛd ɛ d͡ʒɑmɛ ɛ væɾɑmin ]) is a historic mosque in the Iranian city of Varamin . The mosque is one of the oldest buildings in Varamin. It was started in the 14th century during the Öldscheitüs eraand was completed by his son Abū Saʿīd . The building consists of a shabestan , a portico , a large brick dome , an extension next to the shabestan and a collection of ten small arches along a large central arch. The stucco on the building is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Iran. The Ivan of Shabestan contains valuable inscriptions . The inscriptions show different arabesque patterns and different Arabic , Kufic and Persian scripts.
Jane Dieulafoy writes the following in his travelogue about the mosque:
" " ... After the usual compliments and a short rest, we went to visit the Friday mosque of Varamin. The building was very beautiful and splendid in the past, but now it is only a ruin . Even the believers are afraid of the ceiling collapsing and don't go there for prayer . So there is no problem visiting the mosque and anyone can visit this ruin without any problem. " "
