The Freschenhaus is a PES refuge in the Bregenz Forest Mountains in Vorarlberg . It is located in the area of ​​the Hohe Freschen at an altitude of 1846  m above sea level. A.

Near the hut are the more than 700 meters long Great Freschen Cave and a small Alpinum . The most important hiking destinations are the Hohe Freschen and the Matona ( 1998  m above sea level ), both of which can be reached in around 45 minutes.

history

The Freschenhaus was built in 1875 by an initiative from Rankweil and Laterns and was given to the Vorarlberg Section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club , which is still the owner of the hut today. In 1952 the Freschenkapelle next to the hut was inaugurated . After the expansion had been postponed for several decades for economic reasons, the hut was expanded in 1972. In that year the chapel also became the property of the section.

Approaches and crossings

From Bad Laterns ( 1200  m above sea level ) in the south, the Freschenhaus can be reached in about 2 hours 15 minutes, the approach from Bonacker or Innerlaterns ( 1000  m above sea level ) in the south-west is only slightly longer at around 2½ hours. The ascent from Furx to the west ( 1140  m above sea level ) is also estimated at around 2½ hours. From the Furkajochstraße in the southeast, the ascent also takes about 2½ hours.

Neighboring huts are the Lustenauer Hut ( 1250  m above sea level ), the Bregenzer Hut ( 1290  m above sea level ) and the Emser Hut ( 1298  m above sea level ). All three huts can be reached in around 5 hours.
