Fridtjof Paumgarten (born January 6, 1903 in Graz ; † March 12, 1986 in Vienna ) was an Austrian skier who started in cross-country skiing , ski jumping and Nordic combined . Paumgarten comes from a sports-loving family and came to skiing relatively early. His younger siblings Harald and Gerda were also successful skiers.

Career

Paumgarten celebrated its first success in 1921 when he won the German university championships. In 1925 he became the best athlete of the ÖSV at the ski championships jointly organized by Germany and Austria in Kitzbühel . Then he was able to take part in the World Championships in Johannisbad and came in 32nd place in jumping. In 1926 he won a cross-country skiing competition in Semmering . In 1928 he won the three-country meeting in Bad Mitterndorf as well as jumping at the Lower Austrian Championships in Mariazell . At the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , Switzerland , he was part of the ÖSV squad, but suffered a broken thigh during a training jump. In the next few years he achieved several good results, but slowly withdrew from the competitions and finished his training as a dentist .
