Friedel Grützmacher

Elfriede Galama ("Friedel") Grützmacher (born August 3, 1942 in Leer (Ostfriesland) ) is a German politician from Alliance 90 / The Greens .

education and profession

After a teaching degree in the subjects German and Sport, she worked from 1965 as a teacher, including in Wörth am Rhein ( Rheinland-Pfalz ).

Political activity

In the 1980s she became a member of the Greens. In 1991 she was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. There she was parliamentary group leader from 1993–96, and deputy group chairman from 1996–2001. From 2001-2006 she was Vice President of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament. She was a member of the Legal Committee and the Interior Committee as well as the Prison Commission. Until 1996 she was responsible for education policy in the green parliamentary group . Grützmacher did not stand in the state elections on March 26, 2006 and moved to Berlin in the following months. Today she is chairwoman of the German Circle of Friends of the Jewish-Arab Peace Center Givat Haviva and a founding member of the Rhineland-Palatinate Peace Academy .
