Daniel Köbler (born April 3, 1981 in Mainz ) is a Rhineland-Palatinate politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From May 11, 2011 to 2016, he was chairman of the green parliamentary group. In addition, he has been the mayor of the Mainz district of Oberstadt since 2019 .

Family and studies

Köbler was born as one of two sons of a doctor and a business economist and first attended the Martinus School and the Bischöfliche Willigis-Gymnasium . In 1997 he moved to schools in church-run to a sponsorship in urban and made in 2000 at the Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Mainz the High School . Köbler then studied political science at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . In 2008 he completed his studies with a master's degree . Köbler lives in Mainz with his wife and three daughters.

Köbler joined the Green Youth in September 2001 and, at the turn of the year 2002, the Alliance 90 / The Greens party. At the Green Youth he held various offices from 2002 to 2005, most recently as state board spokesman (= state chairman). From 2002 to 2006 he also worked as an employee of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament member Nils Wiechmann . In 2004 he was elected to the Mainz City Council for the Greens, where he is currently responsible for the political areas of finance and participation. In 2005 he ran as a direct candidate for the Bundestag constituency of Mainz and was also on list number 4 of the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens. In November of the same year he was elected to the state party council. From November 2008 to 2011, Nils Wiechmann was appointed regional board spokesman.

In 2011, together with Eveline Lemke , he formed the top candidate duo of the Rhineland-Palatinate Greens for the state elections . He was set up as a direct candidate in the constituency of Mainz I , in which he achieved the best constituency result of the Greens in this election with a constituency share of 27.0 percent. In the state parliament he was elected parliamentary group leader of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in May 2011 and was confirmed in this office in 2013. After the state elections in 2016 , he gave up this office. In 2019 he reached 6th place out of 17 of the Green City Council candidates with 56,301 votes. In the runoff election on June 16, 2019, he was elected mayor of the Upper Town of Mainz with a narrow majority.
