Peace Church (Ponitz)
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace is located in the municipality of Ponitz in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .
history
The 42-meter-high church tower , which characterizes the town, directs the view of the church.
The church was named Friedenskirche in 1998 on the occasion of the commemoration of the Peace of Westphalia 300 years ago, because Wolfgang Conrad von Thumbshirn , lord of the Ponitz estate , played a major role in the peace negotiations.
The current church was built in 1733–1734.
A previous building from the Romanesque period was probably built in the 10th century on the site of a Slavic settlement. For this church, mentioned in 1349 as the Chapel of Our Lady , a clock tower was purchased in 1540 , which was in use for over 300 years. In addition to the two epitaphs and tombs , the baptismal font , which was donated by Anna Thumbshirn in 1604 to Einsiedel , was taken over into the new baroque building.
Further structural changes in the room were later reversed. In 1881 the doors of the long walls were bricked up and the baptismal font was placed at the current location.
Warm air heating was installed at the beginning of the 20th century . From 1987 the ceiling of the nave was raised because the ceiling beams on the north side were rotten. This reduced the pressure on the organ. In 2000–2001 the ailing ceiling beams were replaced. In addition, the church was renovated inside and out in the second half of the 20th century.
organ
The organ of Gottfried Silbermann was built from 1735 to 1737. It was an exception that the king had such an organ built outside of Saxony . He was friends with the then ruling noble family in Ponitz. It was donated by Carl August von der Planitz, Dorothea von Schönberg, geb. von Zehmen and Christiana Sibylla von der Planitz, b. von Zehmen, who signed the corresponding contract on September 14, 1734. In 1782 a carillon was installed. The largely original instrument, restored by Orgelbau Eule in 1984 , has 27 stops on two manuals and a pedal .
