Friederike Sittler (born February 26, 1969 in Arnsberg / North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German journalist and theologian .

Life

Sittler attended the Mariengymnasium Arnsberg and studied from the winter semester 1989/90 at the University of Bamberg Catholic theology , political and communication sciences. During her studies, she completed the journalist training at the Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists (ifp), did internships at the Westfälische Nachrichten , the German Press Agency (dpa), the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) and the Second German Television (ZDF).

In 1995, Friederike Sittler began working for Sender Freie Berlin with a traineeship . She then worked as an editor in the politics department of the SFB, later at Inforadio as a presenter, head of duty and correspondent in the newly founded ARD capital studio .

In December 2002 Friederike Sittler took over the management of the Church and Religion, Radio and Television editorial team at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb). Since then she has moderated a. a. the show Heaven and Earth on rbb television and the conversation on Kulturradio. In the past few years, Sittler headed the “Society and Religion” department. She commented on daily topics in all programs of the rbb and ARD and analyzed church and social developments. Since July 2019 she has been head of the “Background Culture and Politics” department at Deutschlandfunk Kultur .

She has been chairwoman of the Association of Women Journalists since 2019.

Friederike Sittler has a partner and lives in Berlin.

Volunteering

In 2004 Sittler took up an idea from Sabine Werth and initiated the collaboration between Berliner Tafel, Kirchen and rbb for the LAIB and SEELE campaign. 1,300 volunteers support around 50,000 people in need in 45 distribution points by distributing food donations. Friederike Sittler has been a member of the LAIB and SEELE Advisory Board since it was founded. In the ZDF show Maybrit Illner in 2018, she spoke about the social debate about who should have access to the "boards". The controversy arose after the Essen food bank decided to temporarily only distribute food to those in need of German citizenship.

Friederike Sittler is a member of the jury for the Mission Prize of the Verein Andere Zeiten eV She was a member of the jury for the Amadeo Antonio Prize and the German Social Prize.

Awards

For her commitment, Sittler received the Federal Medal of Merit in 2009 and the Order of Merit of the State of Berlin in 2015 .
