Friedrich Andreas Ruhstrat (* 1818 in Ovelgönne ; † January 19, 1896 in Oldenburg ) was a German legal scholar and Oldenburg Minister of State .

biography

Ruhstrat was born as the son of the Privy Councilor Ernst August Ruhstrat (1787-1852), both grandfathers were also lawyers and came from Ovelgönne.

After attending school at the Oldenburg grammar school , he studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg . In 1842 he was accepted into the judicial service of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg and began his first job as an auditor in Zwischenahn . In 1845 he was appointed second chamber secretary and in 1850 he joined the state ministry as chamber secretary and unskilled worker. Here he was initially active as a member of the commission for the reorganization of the authorities. Since then he has remained in the ministerial service almost continuously. His further career was marked by the following titles: 1851 Official Assessor, 1852 Chamber Assessor, 1856 Chamber Councilor and 1858 Ministerial Councilor. In 1869 he became a secret ministerial advisor and lecturer in the finance ministry before finally becoming finance minister himself in the government of state minister Peter Friedrich Ludwig von Rössing in 1872 when Minister Carl Zedelius retired . He kept this office under Rössing's successor, Karl Heinrich Ernst von Berg .

On October 1, 1876, he was promoted to Privy Councilor by Grand Duke Peter II and appointed Minister of State of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg as Berg's successor. He held this office for more than fourteen years until March 14, 1890. He was succeeded in office by Gerhard Friedrich Günther Jansen .

family

Ruhstrat was married to Constanze born in 1850. Mutzenbecher (born May 15, 1828; June 16, 1905) the daughter of the Oldenburg Secret State Councilor and District President Friedrich Mutzenbecher (1781–1855) and sister of the Oldenburg Minister Wilhelm Mutzenbecher (1832–1878), the District President Adolf Mutzenbecher (1834–1896) and the Privy Councilor of State August Mutzenbecher (1826–1897).

The couple had seven children, including Friedrich Julius Heinrich Ruhstrat (1854–1916), who would later succeed him in the office of State Minister, and the Secret Higher Government Councilor Ernst August Wilhelm Ruhstrat (1858–1921).

His nephew was Franz Friedrich Paul Ruhstrat (1859–1935), who was also to become Oldenburg Minister of State.

Ruhstrat's siblings included the higher regional judge August Ruhstrat, the higher appeal court vice-president Ernst Ruhstrat, and Emma Ruhstrat, the wife of the minister Carl Zedelius (1800-1878).
