Friedrich August Brand was the son of Christian Hilfgott Brand (1695–1750) and brother of Johann Christian Brand and probably brother of Heinrich Carl Brandt (1724–1787). He learned landscape painting from his father. From 1774 he was a member of the Vienna Academy , from 1776 he was proofreader to his brother Johann Christian, from 1783 professor and after his death in 1795 his successor. He made watercolors and a large number of engravings , in which the influence of Jacob Matthias Schmutzer is clear, as well as oil paintings in Lower Austrian churches. He died in Vienna in 1806.
