Friedrich August Ermel (born August 3, 1740 in Dresden ; † April 7, 1812 there ) was a Dresden judge, city councilor and mayor .

Life

Ermel was the son of the Electoral Saxon court doctor Johann Friedrich Ermel (1696–1764) and grandson of Georg Ermel (1659–1745). Friedrich August Ermel studied law in Leipzig and obtained a doctorate in law. Ermel's son was Friedrich Christian Ermel (1773-1826), who also had a doctorate in law. In 1824 he set up the foundation for the construction of a birthing house ( Ermelhaus ).

Political activity

In 1777 he was deputy magistrate of the city of Dresden and bought the winery property with manor Friedstein in the Kötzschenbrodaer Weinbergsflur, about 12 kilometers west of Dresden, since 1839 Niederlößnitz , today a district of Radebeul , for 8,500 thalers .

Since 1770 Ermel was a member of the Dresden City Council. On May 1, 1785, Ermel was appointed treasurer in the city council of Dresden under the first mayor Johann August Otto . In addition, he was co-inspector for the St. Sophia and St. Anne's Churches. In 1787 Ermel took over the administration as mayor. According to the council order of 1470, which is still partly in force, there was always one ruling and two dormant councilors at that time. The same rhythm applied to the three elected mayors. So they always changed in the order of governing - associate - resting mayors. Ermel remained in the council until his death in 1812 and was the governing mayor of the council.

In the course of taking office as mayor, Ermel sold the Altfriedstein mansion. In 1799 he lived in the Große Brüdergasse south of the residential palace .

Honors

Ermelstrasse in Dresden- Striesen has been named after him since 1892.
