Friedrich Eltermann

Dietrich Friedrich Wilhelm Eltermann (born December 22, 1835 in Iserlohn , Westphalia province ; † June 18, 1919 in Hildesheim , Hanover province ) was a German history and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Eltermann studied from 1856 to 1858/1859 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There Andreas and Karl Müller , Heinrich Mücke , Christian Köhler and Karl Ferdinand Sohn were his teachers. Then he went to Munich . In 1861 he came to Hildesheim, where he married Anna Wiecker on November 7, 1865, the sister of Hildesheim Cathedral Chapter Ernst Otto Wiecker. In the Diocese of Hildesheim Eltermann was one of the most important artists of his time. There he created wall paintings, altars and crossroads in the style of historicism and the late Nazarene .
