Friedrich Hartmann (civil engineer)
Friedrich Hartmann (born March 29, 1876 in Troppau ; † January 16, 1945 in Vienna ) was an Austrian civil engineer and university professor . He was rector of the Vienna University of Technology .
Life
Friedrich Hartmann studied civil engineering at the German Technical University of Brno , where he received his Dr. techn. PhD and worked as an assistant to Joseph Melan . From 1902 to 1916 he worked as a designer and structural engineer for various railway construction companies. From 1915 to 1918 he also taught at the Austro-Hungarian Technical Military Academy in Mödling .
In 1916 he was appointed full professor for bridge construction at the Vienna University of Technology, where he remained active until his death. In the academic years 1922/23 and 1923/24 he was dean of the engineering school, in the academic year 1928/29 he was elected rector of the Vienna University of Technology .
Hartmann was involved in the construction of reinforced concrete for bridge constructions and was involved in the construction of bridges over the Danube Canal and in the construction of the second Reichsbrücke in Vienna . In addition, he dealt with the aesthetic landscape compatibility of buildings as well as with structural tasks.
Friedrich Hartmann died in 1945 at the age of 68. A lecture hall in the main building on Karlsplatz was named after him at the Vienna University of Technology .
