Friedrich Hauptmann

Friedrich Hauptmann (born September 6, 1860 in Borkendorf , Neisse district , Upper Silesia province ; † after 1923 ; full name: Friedrich Wilhelm Theobald Hauptmann ) was a German choir director and conductor.

Life

Friedrich Hauptmann received his first musical training as a cathedral singer at the boys' seminar in Breslau . From 1877 to 1882 he did military service as an oboist in Metz , where he also worked as a choir director at the city theater. From 1884 to 1886 he worked as a choir director and répétiteur at the city theater in Strasbourg , Alsace , after which he moved to Würzburg, Kissingen and Stettin. In Stettin, Hoffmann was also the director of the Swinoujscie spa orchestra . In 1889 he was appointed choir director at the Neustrelitz court theater, at which he rose to music director in 1904 and director of the court orchestra and the singing academy in 1908. In 1910 he led the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach and directed Daniel-François-Esprit Auber's opera Fra Diavolo and Gioacchino Rossini's William Tell .

In 1914 Friedrich Hoffmann received the Order for Art and Science (Mecklenburg-Strelitz) in silver . In 1923 he retired.
