Friedrich Herzfeld

Friedrich Herzfeld (also Fritz Herzfeld ; born June 17, 1897 in Dresden , † September 19, 1967 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was a German conductor , music writer and music critic .

Live and act

Friedrich Herzfeld was Kapellmeister in Aachen , Dresden and Freiburg im Breisgau and was best known as the conductor of works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .

From 1931 he lived in Berlin. From 1939 to 1942 he was editor-in-chief of the Allgemeine Musikzeitung and from 1940 to 1943 he was press officer of the Berlin Philharmonic . He has authored books on music and musicians, and wrote reviews for music magazines. His best-known work is the Ullstein Lexicon of Music , which first appeared in 1957 as Lexicon of Music and has since been published under various titles in several new editions and revisions.

The dancer and choreographer Konstanze Vernon was the daughter of Friedrich Herzfeld. The historian Hans Herzfeld was his cousin.
