Friedrich Kasch

Friedrich Kasch (born May 26, 1921 in Bonn ; † March 11, 2017 ) was a German mathematician .

Life

Friedrich Kasch's main field of work was algebra . He received his doctorate in 1950 in Münster under Friedrich Karl Schmidt (dissertation: About a standardized generation of oblique body extensions ), taught in Mainz and at the University of Heidelberg and in 1963 switched to the Mathematical Institute of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . There he held a chair for algebra until his retirement in 1987. As Vice-Rector of the University of Munich (1969–1972), he was also chairman of the integration commission for the universities of teacher education.

Appointed by the Ministry of Culture to the founding commissions for the universities of Bayreuth and Augsburg , he helped to found them. Kasch was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Munich from 1983 to 1985 and introduced the subject of computer science at the university during this time.

He dealt with algebra (theory of modules and rings ). Kasch rings, Kasch bimodules, Kasch radical and Kasch duality are named after him.
