Friedrich Wilhelm Theodor Kopsch

Friedrich Wilhelm Theodor Kopsch (born March 24, 1868 in Saarbrücken , † January 24, 1955 in Berlin ) was a German anatomist .

Live and act

Kopsch studied medicine at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin from 1888 . He was a student of Hans Virchow and Heinrich Wilhelm Waldeyer . In 1892 he received his doctorate with the dissertation "Iris and corpus ciliare of the reptile eye" . From 1892 to 1895 he worked as an assistant at the then II. Anatomical Institute in Berlin. Then he moved to the first anatomical institute of the city to Waldeyer. He habilitated there in 1898 for anatomy and was a lecturer . After being appointed adjunct professor in 1908, Kopsch became senior assistant in 1910 and second prosector in 1919. In 1921 he was appointed associate professor and took the position of the first prosector. In 1925 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . In 1935 Friedrich Kopsch was appointed full professor of histology , embryology and anatomy under the direction of Hermann Stieve . From 1897 Kopsch was editor of the international monthly for anatomy and physiology . The "Textbook and Atlas of Human Anatomy" founded by August Rauber (1841-1917) was continued by Kopsch as the sole author after his death.

Already retired , from 1945 to 1949 Kopsch again served as the institute's second director alongside Anton Johannes Waldeyer .

Friedrich Kopsch died in 1955 at the age of 86 years in Berlin. His grave is in the Dahlem forest cemetery .
