Friedrich Krause (engineer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Krause (born October 31, 1938 in Pößneck , Thuringia ) is a German engineer and university professor .

Life

In 1962 Krause finished his studies in mechanical engineering and became a research assistant at the Technical University of Magdeburg . In 1969 he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Magdeburg, with a thesis on the subject of the “emptying process of cellless paddle wheels”. He then became a senior scientific assistant in the field of conveyor technology. In 1972 he received his teaching qualification in the field of conveyor equipment. This was followed by a one-year research and teaching stay at the Moscow State Technical University .

From 1979 to 1982 Krause worked as a research and development engineer in the TAKRAF research institute in Leipzig . During this time he developed calculation rules for belt conveyors .

After his years at TAKRAF, Krause returned to Magdeburg as a senior assistant. Here his research led to the development of a special hose belt vertical conveyor. In 1983, Krause completed his habilitation with a thesis on the subject of "Mechanical vertical conveying of bulk materials". From 1984 he was a lecturer in the field of "conveyor equipment", from 1989 associate professor and from 1994 full professor for conveyor technology.

In 2003 Krause retired. Since then, he has continued to work as a doctoral supervisor, reviewer and consultant and actively participates in specialist conferences.

Research areas

Krause was particularly concerned with the interaction of bulk material and mechanical components of continuous conveyors in the field of conveyor technology. He investigated the load on the idler rollers on belt conveyors and researched the flexing resistance. He modeled the emptying behavior of bucket elevators. He examined the operating principles of ascending conveyors for bulk materials and contributed to their further development. He also dealt with municipal waste management. Krause created application-related calculation models and engineering-style measurement and analysis methods. He also used the Discrete Element Method (DEM) for dimensioning continuous conveyors.

Awards and honors

For his achievements Krause was awarded an honorary doctorate from the universities of Kharkiv and Odessa .

Offices and memberships

From 1990 to 1993 and from 1997 to 2001 Krause was head of the Institute for Conveyor and Construction Machine Technology, Steel Construction, Logistics (since 2006: Institute for Logistics and Material Flow Technology, ILM) at the TU Magdeburg. He was the spokesman for the German Association of University Lecturers and a founding member of the Scientific Society for Technical Logistics. He is also involved in the Emeritio professors' college , which is dedicated to the generally understandable transfer of knowledge to broad sections of the population.
