Friedrich Latendorf (philologist)
Johann Friedrich Theodor Latendorf (born November 6, 1831 in Neustrelitz , † May 1, 1898 in Schönberg ) was a German high school teacher and philologist ( Germanist ).
Life
Friedrich Latendorf was the son of the Chamber and Consistorial Pedell Daniel Friedrich Latendorf in Neustrelitz.
Latendorf lost her parents at an early age and grew up with relatives. He attended the Carolinum grammar school in Neustrelitz and studied philology at the University of Göttingen from 1849 to 1853 . He entered the Mecklenburg school service and initially taught at his old school, the Neustrelitz grammar school. In 1860 he moved to the Gymnasium Friedericianum in Schwerin. Here he became a senior teacher in 1869 and a professor in 1873. At that time he was at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Rostock to Dr. phil. PhD . From 1877 he was also a private lecturer in political science and aesthetics at the University of Berlin . From 1873 to 1880 Latendorf also gave lectures on literary history at the Victoria Lyceum in Berlin.
From 1860 he was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology and administrator of its library. In addition, he was a member of the German Anthropological Society and a permanent employee of the Mecklenburgische Zeitung and Mecklenburgische Nachrichten . He mainly wrote theater reviews for the newspapers.
From 1893 he spent his retirement with his eldest daughter Doris in Schönberg, Mecklenburg, who ran a private girls' school there. His son of the same name, Friedrich , who became known as a genre and landscape painter, also lived there.
