Friedrich Lauer

Friedrich Lauer (born December 28, 1793 in Karlsruhe , † December 26, 1873 in Mannheim ) was a Baden entrepreneur and politician.

Lauer took over the management of a donut factory in Mannheim in 1816 through marriage . From 1831 to 1841 he was a member of the second chamber of the Baden state estates and in 1850 in the Erfurt parliament . From 1850 to 1862 he was the first merchant of the First Chamber in Baden.

From 1844 to 1864 Lauer was President of the Mannheim Chamber of Commerce . He founded the Mannheimer Dampfschleppschifffahrts-Gesellschaft and the Badische Assekuranz-Gesellschaft . The public green area Lauersche Gardens in square M6 - created by him in 1829 - carries his name on. The property belonging to it was destroyed in World War II.

Friedrich Lauer was the son of the businessman Friedrich Lauer and Julie Sophie, nee Ackermann (1761-1846). He was married to Louise (1794–1869), daughter of Abraham Michel (1760–1816) and Christine Henriette Ackermann (1771–1820). Louise's grandfather Johann Christoph Michel (1731–1800) had founded the Mannheimer Krappfabrik in 1778.

The Lauer crypt in Mannheim's main cemetery has a high aedicule in black, polished granite on a three-step staircase with a marble writing tablet, and on the sides are angel heads made of cast zinc. The triangular gable has a cartouche framed by torches and fruit containers, the mirror is decorated with a butterfly .
