Friedrich Magnus von Horn (* 1704 in Geldern ; † September 2, 1774 ) was an officer in the royal Prussian army , most recently major general and chief of the infantry regiment "Kronprinz" (5th Royal Saxon) No. 104 , which was temporarily used as infantry Regiment S 56 was led.

Life

He entered Prussian service in 1724 and was second lieutenant in the Infantry Regiment No. 30 (Thile) in 1730 . He was already involved in the campaigns on the Rhine in 1734 and 1735, as well as later in the Silesian Wars , in which he was promoted to captain in 1740, major in 1748, lieutenant colonel in 1751 and colonel in September 1754. He was about to retire because he saw himself being passed over in a promotion. But when the Seven Years War broke out, he withdrew his request.

In 1756 the king gave him the infantry regiment S56, which was formed from the Saxon infantry regiment Prince Friedrich captured near Pirna . The regiment was sent to Naumburg an der Saale as a garrison . It actually dissolved again through desertion.

He became the commandant of Wittenberg, but when General Kleefeld had the city besieged, he had to surrender after six weeks. With that he fell out of favor with the king. Although the court martial had initially acquitted him, the king had not recognized the verdict. In a new trial, he was to two years imprisonment convicted. At his request, the detention was postponed until after the war. Despite brave behavior during the war, he was dismissed as major general in 1763, but without a pension, and then had to serve his sentence. His son Christoph resigned from the Prussian army and initially switched to Polish service and a short time later to Danish service.
