Magnus Friedrich von Horn

Magnus Friedrich von Horn (born April 10, 1640 in Ranzin ; † August 9, 1712 in Geldern ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and governor of Geldern.

Life

He came from the noble Pomeranian von Horn family . His parents were Balzer von Horn († 1696), the heir of Ranzin and Oldenburg, and his wife Sophia von Raden .

Von Horn entered Dutch service in 1655, but became captain of the Kurbrandenburg army in 1672 . With this regiment he fought in the Dutch war in Holland and Alsace and after the invasion of the Swedes in the battle of Fehrbellin and the sieges of Stettin and Stralsund . On November 14, 1678 he was promoted to Oberstwachtmeister, on September 6, 1688 to Lieutenant Colonel. On December 8, 1688, Magnus Friedrich von Horn became the commander of the Minden Fortress and commander of the 8th regiment under von Ziehten .

In 1689 the battalion was split up. Von Horn received one regiment, and Prince Anton Günther von Anhalt-Zerbst received the second regiment . Promoted to colonel on June 30, 1690, he immediately fought in the Battle of Fleurus (1690) , the occupation of Ath and in 1692 the siege of Namur . 1695 he was at a loss seriously injured in the leg.

Further promotions to brigadier on June 16, 1696, major general on February 10, 1700 and sergeant general of the infantry on October 2, 1700 followed. In March 1702 von Horn acted in the Prussian troops under General Johann Siegmund von Heyden in Holland, where he commanded his own free company. He fought in the siege of Kaiserswerth (1702) , the capture of Trier, Saarburg and Trarbach .

On July 8, 1705 he was appointed governor of Geldern and on January 3, 1706 lieutenant general.

His first wife was a Johanna Maria von Falck (e) . He then married Anna Katharina von Stosch , with whom he also had several children:
