Friedrich Rieger (singer)

Friedrich Rieger (born December 4, 1811 in Steinsdorf , Neisse district , Province of Silesia , † February 27, 1885 in Breslau ) was a German singer.

Life

Born the son of a farmer, Rieger studied Catholic theology in Breslau from 1834 after graduating from high school in Neisse . During his studies in 1834 he became a member of the Raczeks Breslau fraternity . After receiving musical support in his childhood, he made his first stage experiences during his studies as a member of the Academic Music Association and received music lessons from Johann Theodor Mosewius . He was also sponsored by his federal brother Eugen Seidelmann , who helped him get a job as a choir player at the Wroclaw City Theater . In 1838 he had his first leading role as Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute and became second baritone in 1841 and first baritone in 1845 . From 1847 he also worked as a director . In 1853 he had a guest performance at the Royal Opera in Berlin and was at the Vienna Court Opera from 1857 to 1858 before returning to the Breslau City Theater and being its director from 1866 to 1867 . In his career he had over 5000 appearances in 535 operas. In 1879 he retired.
