Friedrich Rochleder (born May 15, 1819 in Vienna ; † November 5, 1874 there ) was an Austrian chemist .

Friedrich Rochleder was destined to be a pharmacist by his father, the pharmacist Anton Rochleder, in which he found no satisfaction. From 1836 he studied medicine at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1842. med. Like his friend Josef Redtenbacher , he then turned to chemistry and continued his studies in Giessen with Justus von Liebig . Liebig's ideas for applying chemistry to physiology and agriculture complemented Rochleder's interest in biology. After completing his training, he spent several months in Paris and London. After his return in 1845, Minister Graf Stadion appointed him professor of technical chemistry at the newly established Technical Academy in Lemberg . From 1848 he was a real member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna . In 1849 he became Professor of Chemistry at the Charles University in Prague and in 1870 Professor of General and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Vienna.

He mainly dealt with plant chemistry .
