Friedrich Schaarschmidt

Heinrich Karl Friedrich Schaarschmidt (born March 25, 1892 in Glauchau , † September 30, 1983 in Lübeck-Travemünde ) was a German engineer, manager and entrepreneur.

Life

Friedrich Schaarschmidt studied, interrupted by his participation in the First World War as a soldier, at the Technical Universities in Munich and Berlin-Charlottenburg as well as at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1913 he became a member of the Corps Vitruvia Munich. After completing his studies and working as a production engineer at Hermann and Alfred Escher AG in Chemnitz and as a senior engineer at Fritz Neumeyer AG in Munich, he returned to the Technical University of Munich as an assistant. To the Dr.-Ing. after receiving his doctorate, he worked as a consulting engineer for economical manufacturing. In 1925 he worked for E. Gundlach AG in Bielfeld, which appointed him director and board member in 1928. In 1928 he joined the NSDAP . He was also a member of the Association of German Engineers , the German Standards Committee , the Reich Committee for Working Time Determination , the Working Group of German Production Engineers, the Committee for Economic Manufacturing, the Reich Board of Trustees for Economic Efficiency and the German Book Printers Association .

After the National Socialist seizure of power , he called himself general director and "manager" of the large graphic company Gundlach . He became the "leader" of the Bielfeld Chamber of Industry and Commerce . In 1935 he was one of the founders of the first Bielefeld Rotary Club . During the Second World War , with the involvement of the parent company Oetker , 185 forced laborers were assigned.

After the liberation from National Socialism , he was denazified in 1946 . As a political suspect, he left the board of E. Gundlach AG in 1947 and acquired the F. Luce packaging company in Bielefeld in September 1947 with his son Ekkehard . As a result, he rose to become one of the most influential people in the West German paper and cardboard industry. From 1947 to 1948 he was first chairman of the Association for the Paper and Cardboard Processing Industry in Northwest Germany (VPV), based in Bielefeld. He was a member of the executive committee of the Main Association of the Paper and Cardboard Processing Industry (HPV), later appointed for life, and chairman of the committees for technology, research and training. In 1949, on his initiative, the paper technology department was set up at the Oskar von Miller Institute . In 1950 he initiated the establishment of the Paper Technology Foundation (PTS) in Munich. In the 1950s and 1960s he was president of the Verband der Versand-Kartonagen e. V. and the corresponding European Manufacturers Association ASSCO (Association Européenne des Fabricants de Caisses en Carton Compact) based in The Hague . He was chairman of the Rationalization Association in the Rationalization Board of Trustees of German Business (RKW).

Honors

In 1953 Schaarschmidt was awarded the Cross of Merit as Steckkreuz (later renamed "Cross of Merit 1st Class") of the Federal Republic of Germany.
