The Friedrich Scharr KG (proper spelling: SCHARR) is an energy trading company with headquarters in Stuttgart-Vaihingen .

Company profile

The company is a fourth generation family business , was founded in 1883 and is now one of the leading independent energy trading companies in southern Germany. In total, the group of companies employs over 700 people at 19 nationwide branches that supply over 210,000 customers in private households, trade and industry with energy.

The Scharr Group consists of the parent company Friedrich Scharr KG and the subsidiaries Scharr Wärme GmbH & Co. KG, Scharr Tec GmbH & Co. KG, Scharr CPC GmbH, Sailer Mineralölhandel GmbH, Sailer Tanklager GmbH, Synchron GmbH and Unil Deutschland GmbH . The parent company supplies customers with liquid gas , lubricants and chemical products. Scharr Wärme GmbH & Co. KG is the market leader in heating oil trading in Baden-Württemberg and also sells green electricity , natural gas and wood pellets under the Pellox brand . The subsidiary Scharr Tec GmbH & Co. KG bundles all technical activities of the group of companies and is a supplier of heating and sanitary technology , plant construction , gas burners , building automation as well as energy and automation technology . Scharr CPC GmbH, formerly known as Solvadis CPC, is one of the most important aerosol suppliers in Europe and one of the largest liquid gas traders in Germany. Another subsidiary is Synchron GmbH, which offers business advice and information systems. Since 2014, Sailer Mineralölhandel GmbH and Sailer Tanklager GmbH have also been part of the corporate group in order to further expand the existing wholesale business with heating oil, diesel fuel and petrol . Unil Deutschland GmbH holds the trademark rights for the lubricant brand Unil in Germany. In addition, the group of companies has equity investments in GKG Mineralölhandel GmbH & Co. KG, natGAS AG and Transgas Liquid Gas Transport and Logistics GmbH & Co. KG.

history

The family company was founded in 1883 by Johann Friedrich Scharr as a coal trade . In 1904 the business passed to his son Gottlieb Friedrich Scharr, who expanded the coal business. 15 years later his brother Eugen Scharr joins the company as a partner, takes over the management and in 1921 acquires the wholesale license. After the sudden death of Eugen Scharr in 1935, Otto Friedrich Scharr is the third generation to take over the family business. The acquisition of the large warehouse at the train station in Stuttgart-Vaihingen in 1939, which is still the company's headquarters today, represents a milestone.

In the 1950s, the company became broader and more stable through diversification. In addition to expanding the coal business, trading in heating oil (1951) and liquid gas (1953) is started. The new energy sources open up a further field of business for Scharr, as heating systems had to be converted. For this reason, in 1955 the company developed a wide range of services relating to heating and heating technology . In addition to the diversification strategy, the company expanded spatially in 1964 and established the liquefied gas business in Bavaria. With the entry into the chemical and lubricants trade , Scharr expanded its activities at the beginning of 1970 and since then the operating materials for industry and trade have rounded off the range of services. 1980 Dr. Werner Pfäffle (Otto Friedrich Scharr's son-in-law) alongside Otto Friedrich Scharr as managing partner. After German reunification, Scharr became involved in developing liquid gas sales in the new federal states in 1990. With Rainer Otto Friedrich Scharr, the fourth generation of the family joins the company in 1992. In 1995, Scharr founds the joint venture GKG Mineraloel Handel GmbH & Co. KG together with Jet Tankstellen Deutschland GmbH.

In 1996 Rainer Otto Friedrich Scharr became managing partner and since 2013 has been the sole general partner with three other members of the management team. In the following years, the company took over the lubricant specialty companies Käppler, Hyperol and Condor (2002–2003) as well as the Aral heating oil end-user business in the south-west (2004). In 2005 the Pellox wood pellets brand was registered. In 2006, Scharr CPC GmbH was founded to take over the liquid gas and aerosol business from Solvadis CPC. In 2007, the overlapping activities in the field of technology were bundled with the establishment of Scharr Tec GmbH & Co. KG and the overlapping activities in the heating oil sector with the establishment of Scharr Wärme GmbH & Co. KG. With the takeover of Thermotec Engineering GmbH in 2008, the group of companies entered the production of flat gas burners and forced draft gas burners. In the same year the logistics center for lubricants and chemical products goes into operation. In 2010 Scharr Wärme GmbH & Co. KG started the natural gas business for private and business customers. At the same time, the Scharr Group takes over EMS Energie Control Systeme GmbH and supplements the range of services with building automation and measurement , control and regulation technology . In 2011 the company gave its name to the Scharrena sports hall in Stuttgart. With the commissioning of the new tank storage building with its own mixing and filling plant in 2012, the Scharr Group is expanding the lubricants sector. With the takeover of Sailer Mineralölhandel GmbH and Sailer Tanklager GmbH in 2014, the company expanded its activities in the middle distillate trading business in Bavaria and Austria. In addition, Cleanlife - device petrol rounds off the Sailer product portfolio. At the same time, Scharr Wärme GmbH & Co. KG is completing the energy offer by using green electricity from 100% hydropower for private and business customers.

The takeover of Enatec GmbH in 2017 adds control cabinet construction for technical systems to the group's portfolio. In 2018 all technical business areas (Enatec GmbH, EMS Energie Control Systeme GmbH and Thermotec Engineering GmbH) will be bundled and integrated into Scharr Tec GmbH & Co. KG. In the same year, the Scharr Group takes a stake in Fireblast Deutschland GmbH, whose focus is on the sale of fire service monitoring systems. With the opening of the Hunderdorf location in 2019, Scharr Tec GmbH & Co.KG is positioning itself for the future in the areas of industrial plant construction as well as water and wastewater technology. At the same time, the subsidiary takes over the switch cabinet manufacturing company SKS Elektrotechnik GmbH. In the same year, Scharr Wärme GmbH & Co.KG expanded its market position by taking over the companies in the heating oil and diesel end-user business, Calpam Mineralöl GmbH at the Albstadt, Augsburg and Neu-Ulm locations, as well as the heating oil dealer Rühle GmbH in Weinstadt and Luithle GmbH in Heilbronn from.

Friedrich Scharr KG has lodged an objection to the fine. On April 15, 2013, the 4th Cartel Senate of the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court announced its verdict after 132 days of negotiation. A total of EUR 244 million were fined against five companies. Friedrich Scharr KG has lodged an appeal against the judgment with the BGH. The judgment is not yet final.

The group of companies is mainly active in Stuttgart and the surrounding area. She is the namesake of the SCHARRena Stuttgart (sports hall in the Untertürkheim corner of the Mercedes-Benz Arena). It is also a sponsor of Allianz MTV Stuttgart (volleyball, women, 1st Bundesliga), TVB 1898 Stuttgart (handball, 1st Bundesliga) and SV Vaihingen (soccer, regional league).

The Otto F. Scharr Foundation was established in 1998, the purpose of which is to promote science and research, education and upbringing, art and culture as well as to support the idea of ​​home and charitable expenses. In addition, the foundation has been awarding the Otto F. Scharr Prize for Energy Technology together with the University of Stuttgart since 2008.

In addition, SCHARR has been a partner of the Jazzopen Stuttgart since 2014 and neutralizes the expected CO 2 emissions of the event by supporting a climate protection project certified by the UNFCCC in Darfur in Sudan .
