Friedrich Stegmüller (born December 8, 1902 in Glatt (Hohenzollern), † August 4, 1981 in Pertisau , Tyrol ) was a German Catholic theologian and professor of dogmatics .

Life

From 1913 to 1920 Stegmüller attended the Latin school in Horb and the grammar school in Sigmaringen . In 1920 he began studying theology in Freiburg im Breisgau , which he finished in 1924. In 1925 he was ordained a priest . In 1928 he received his doctorate and in 1930 he completed his habilitation in Freiburg. In 1929 he went on educational trips to Spain and Portugal . From 1929 to 1933 he was employed as a tutor at the Collegium Borromaeum in Freiburg. On December 1, 1936, he was appointed full professor of dogmatics in Würzburg (at that time he lived in the rectory of Randersacker ) and in 1949 in Freiburg . He held the chair until his retirement in 1967. Since 1966 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
