Glatt (Sulz am Neckar)

Glatt is a village in the northern Black Forest and has been part of Sulz am Neckar since 1975 . The place Glatt is located on the Glatt River , about 17 km down the valley from Glatten and has about 700 inhabitants.

The place is suitable as a starting point for hikes, walks and Nordic walking . There is also a well-developed cycle path between Hopfau and Glatt. There are several hotels in the village.

The village was first mentioned in a document around 736 in a deed of donation to the St. Gallen monastery . However, the settlement is much older. As early as 750-450 BC Celts settled here . The Romans then built a road from Sulz via Glatt to Kniebis . Until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803, the place was part of the Muri Monastery in Switzerland owned lordship Glatt . After secularization in 1803, Glatt came to the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen . The ownership took place after the completion of the partition plan on November 2, 1802. With the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, Glatt came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1850 as part of the Hohenzollern Lands .

Until 1854 the place was the seat of the Oberamt Glatt . After its abolition, Glatt belonged to the Haigerloch Oberamt from 1854 to 1925 . This was in 1925 with the Oberamt Hechingen to district Hechingen united, whose part was smooth until the year 1973rd On January 1, 1975, the place was incorporated into the former Württemberg Sulz am Neckar.

  • The moated castle Glatt is one of the oldest Renaissance castles in southern Germany.
  • The Catholic Church of St. Gallus with the family crypt of the Lords of Neuneck . The church was first mentioned in 1275. Originally built in the late Gothic style, in 1719 the pointed arched windows were rounded and the Gothic tracery was removed. At that time the church and the place were owned by the Muri monastery . The present sanctuary is almost 500 years old.
  • Linden tree in the castle park with a chest height of 7.01 m (2014).
