Friedrich "Fritz" Steinhoff , MdL (born February 7, 1899 in Wrescherode , † November 27, 1983 in Helmstedt ) was a German politician ( SPD ), mayor and district master craftsman .

Life

Steinhoff completed an apprenticeship as a painter from 1913 to 1917. He came to Helmstedt in 1921 and completed his training there, which had been interrupted by the First World War. 1933 completed the master's examination and founded a painting business. After Steinhoff was used as a soldier in the First World War, he also took part in the Second. From 1945 to 1952 he was district master craftsman for the Helmstedt district and member of the board of the Braunschweig Chamber of Crafts . Since 1953 he ran a shop for painting articles.

He had already joined the SPD in 1918 and held various positions of function. For example, he ran for the city council in Helmstedt in 1931 and was a member of the board of the workers' welfare organization and the union cartel from 1931 to 1933 . After a physical attack by members of the local SA on March 20, 1933, he had to leave Helmstedt temporarily and on April 4, 1933, under pressure from the National Socialists, renounced to continue to be politically active. As an active member of the volunteer fire brigade, he worked as an operations manager from 1937 during the Second World War and took part in the extinguishing work after the bombing of Braunschweig. He was actively involved in the reconstruction of the city and the district of Helmstedt.
