Live and act

The son of Polycarp Leyser II (1586–1633) and Sabine Volckmar (1598–1634) studied theology at the universities in Leipzig, Wittenberg and Copenhagen after finishing school . After graduating in 1650, Leyser was initially taken on as a Saturday preacher at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig , before moving to the market church of Our Lady in Halle ad Saale as a deacon a year later . In 1662 he was appointed superintendent in Langensalza and two years later as cathedral preacher at Magdeburg Cathedral , where he was promoted to upper cathedral preacher in 1668. From 1671 he lived in Gouvernementsstrasse 1 .

In addition, he was already in charge of the churches and schools in Braunschweig as Co- Adjutor from 1666 and later worked as “Inspector primarius” from Brandenburg in the Holzkreis .

Several disputations such as the “Disputatio politica De foederibus cum infidelibus” and his funeral sermons about well-known personalities of his time have come down to us.

Friedrich Wilhelm Leyser was married to Christina Margarethe Malsius (1631–1681), daughter of the Magdeburg Chancellor Simon Malsius . He had several children with her, including two sons, Polykarp Leyser III. (1656–1725), who was also a theologian, but also an orientalist and gave the ceremonial speech on the abdication of his father as cathedral preacher, and the later Magdeburg syndic Friedrich Wilhelm Leyser (1658–1720) became particularly well known.
