Friedrich Zeller (politician)
Friedrich Zeller (born April 1, 1966 in Memmingen ) is a German local politician ( SPD ).
Life
After graduating from high school, Friedrich Zeller studied at the Bernhard-Strigel-Gymnasium at the University of Politics in Munich . He completed his studies with a diploma. He then studied administrative sciences in Speyer and completed his studies with a doctorate at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1989 Zeller went to Leipzig , where he initially worked for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and later for the mayor's office. In 1994 he was elected to the Leipzig city council, but soon moved to Schongau , where he was elected mayor in the first ballot in May 1996. He held this office until April 2008. On March 30, 2008 , he was elected district administrator in the Weilheim-Schongau district in a runoff election with 53.7% as a SPD candidate against the previous incumbent Luitpold Braun (CSU) May 2008.
During his time as district administrator, the hospitals in the Weilheim-Schongau district were combined to form the Krankenhaus GmbH. He initiated the closure of the hospital in Peißenberg , which was finally closed at the beginning of 2016. In the course of the negotiations, Zeller suffered several failures at various events. For example, he insulted doctors at an event in Bad Tölz in July 2012 . He also insulted nurses at a meeting of the district council. In both incidents, Zeller only apologized weeks after these statements.
In the local elections in 2014 he lost his office. In a runoff election on March 30, 2014 against his challenger Andrea Jochner-Weiß (CSU), Zeller received 32.0 percent of the votes.
After being voted out of office as district administrator, Friedrich Zeller has been working full-time as a municipal advisor, lecturer and supervisory and advisory board representative from 2014. Zeller is a member of the regional board of the ADFC Bayern.
On January 21, 2017 he was nominated by the SPD as a candidate for the mayoral election in Memmingen on March 19, 2017, in which he lost 48.46% to his competitor Manfred Schilder from the CSU .
Friedrich Zeller is married and has three children.
