Friedrich von Bezold

Friedrich Gustav Johannes von Bezold (born December 26, 1848 in Munich , † April 29, 1928 in Bonn ) was a German historian . His best-known work is the history of the German Reformation . His contributions to the study of the history of the Hussites are also important . He taught at the universities of Erlangen and Bonn .

Life

The son of the government official (and later Alpine Club President) Gustav von Bezold studied in Munich , Berlin , Göttingen , and then again until 1872 in Munich, where he received his doctorate and habilitation in 1875 . During his studies he became a member of the AGV Munich in the special houses association . In 1884 he became a full professor in Erlangen. In 1896 he was appointed to the University of Bonn. In 1903/04 he was rector of the university, and in 1921 he retired. His grave is in the Kessenicher Bergfriedhof .

From 1883 Bezold was an extraordinary member, from 1892 a full member of the historical commission at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences , whose department "Older Palatine Correspondence" he headed from 1890 to 1903. In 1901 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . From 1907 he was a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
