Friedrich von Erdingen († June 15, 1396 ) was bishop of Chur and Brixen .

Friedrich von Erdingen presumably came from Swabia and became the owner of the Probstdorf parish in Lower Austria and other charities in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . Duke Rudolf the founder tried to get a canonical for Erdingen in Freising . He eventually became Chancellor of Leopold III. and as such was appointed Bishop of Chur on November 20, 1368 by Pope Urban V. He was mostly absent from Chur and handed over the administration to Count Rudolf von Montford-Feldkirch.

In 1374 Erdingen asked Pope Gregory XI. about the translation to Brixen. Since Duke Albrecht III. However, wanted to give his protonotary Johann von Ehingen the diocese, this remained vacant for two years. Finally, Duke Leopold III. by the fact that Erdingen was elected bishop of Brixen, Ehingen followed him as bishop in Chur. Since Erdingen remained his chancellor until Leopold's death, he entrusted the management of the diocese to a deputy. When the great schism broke out, Leopold persuaded him to take the side of Pope Clement VII ; after the death of Leopold he changed at the urging of Albrecht III. on the side of Urban VI.

Erdingen made great contributions to the city of Bressanone and to the granting of town charter from 1380. During his reign, the Gothic vaulting of the Brixen cathedral cloister , the expansion of the Liebfrauenkirche and alterations to the bishop's court also took place.

In January or February 1396 Erdingen had to resign at the urging of Duke Leopold IV . He died a short time later on June 15th, his gravestone is on the facade of the Brixen cathedral.
