Friedrich von Lingelsheim

Friedrich von Lingelsheim (born November 13, 1755 in Hungen in der Wetterau, † January 17, 1835 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and most recently head of the Berlin cadet institute . He managed to keep it during the Napoleonic period from 1806 to 1815.

Life

His parents were the Dutch Colonel LF von Lingelsheim and his wife Countess Elisabeth Friederike von Solms-Laubach (* 10 September 1725 - 16 September 1758), a daughter of Count Carl Otto Graf zu Solms-Upthe, (1673-1743 ) and Countess Luise Albertine von Schönburg-Glauchau (1686–1740)

Military career

He came to Berlin on June 1 as a cadet , and on February 7, 1773 he joined the Guard as a private corporal . There he became an ensign on December 2, 1773 and also took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On August 6, 1779 he was second lieutenant, on March 22, 1787, premier lieutenant and on February 22, 1790 captain and company commander in the cadet house in Berlin. On October 12, 1793 he was promoted to major and on March 7, 1798 appointed commander of the Cadet House. For his services he received on March 18, 1799 in cadet exams from King Friedrich Wilhelm III. the Pour le Mérite . On June 4, 1803 he rose to lieutenant colonel, and on May 6, 1804 he received a gift of 600 thalers. On June 5, 1805 he was promoted to colonel. Since General Ernst von Rüchel was commanded to East Prussia, on October 1, 1805 he was given supervision over the cadet corps in Berlin and Potsdam. On April 1st he became head of all cadet institutions. On January 4, 1807 he received his resignation , but on January 4, 1807 he was appointed head of the Berlin cadet institute. For this he was appointed major general on November 1, 1810 with a patent on November 4, 1811. On September 12, 1817 he was retired as lieutenant general with a pension of 3,000 thalers. He died unmarried on January 13, 1835 in Berlin and was buried in the garrison cemetery on January 17, 1835.

He also set up a foundation, the proceeds of which would be used annually to equip cadets.
